Virginia Tech returned to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship in 2026, nearly eliminating No. 1 UCLA from the Los Angeles Regional. The Hokies earned their 12th tournament berth all-time while head coach John Szefc celebrated his ninth career postseason appearance.
Virginia Tech achieved historic success during the 2022 season, highlighted by its 45 wins (ACC-era record). The Hokies clinched the ACC Coastal Division with the league's best record and championed the NCAA Blacksburg Regional on their way to advancing to the NCAA Blacksburg Super Regional.

During the 2022 MLB Draft, outfielder Gavin Cross became Virginia Tech's highest all-time draft selection when he was taken No. 9 overall by the Kansas City Royals.
Since 2020, five of Virginia Tech's 16 MLB Draft picks have been taken during the top 100 selections: Ian Seymour (2020, No. 57 overall), Gavin Cross (2022, No. 9), Tanner Schobel (2022, No. 68), Drue Hackenberg (2023, No. 59) and Jack Hurley (2023, No. 80).
