Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department and head men’s soccer coach Mike Brizendine announced the promotion of Jeff Kinney to the position of assistant men’s soccer coach on Thursday. Kinney has served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Tech men’s soccer program for the past two seasons.
“We’re very excited to have Jeff Kinney on our full-time staff,” said Brizendine. “He’s a tireless worker and he knows where our program is now and the direction we’re trying to go. I know that he will give everything he has to get the program to that position.”
Before coming to Blacksburg, Kinney spent seven years as an assistant coach at American University. A 2003 graduate of American, Kinney was known as one of the toughest players on the team, dominating play in the midfield.
Coach Kinney has been involved with top-level youth soccer in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for the past several years. His club teams have won numerous national tournaments and have been consistently ranked in the top-10 in the country.
He has worked with the Olympic Development Program Region I staff as well as the D.C. United Youth Development Program. He held the position of Director of Coaching for RFC, formerly known as the Reston Football Club, a nationally prominent club before coaching with D.C. United’s U18 Academy, leading the team to the USSF Academy championship game in his first year.
