Welcome to the official hub for NIL at Virginia Tech.

When the first notes of Enter Sandman come through the speakers, the ground in Blacksburg literally shakes as Hokie fans jump up and down in anticipation of another Tech Triumph.

Virginia Tech student-athletes put it all on the line when supporters start jumping. Now, Hokie Nation can do the same by aiding in name, image and likeness opportunities, helping to jump start Tech student-athletes as they reach for excellence.

Advancing in the name, image and likeness space is crucial for the future success of Virginia Tech Athletics. NIL is on the forefront of many current student-athletes’ and potential recruits’ minds when coming to Blacksburg, and it is imperative for Hokie Nation to keep Virginia Tech competitive in this space against some of the other elite programs in collegiate athletics. Luckily, it’s never been easier to support the NIL interests of Virginia Tech student-athletes.

In accordance with House Bill 1505 passed in April 2024, Virginia public and private institutions are now allowed to facilitate and create name, image and likeness opportunities for student-athletes, streamlining the process for Virginia Tech.

FAQs

The Hokie Club can now accept gifts to support name, image and likeness, which was not permitted before the passing of House Bill 1505.

There are multiple options to support student-athletes’ NIL interests at Virginia Tech!

If you want to support the name, image and likeness interests for athletes of a specific sport, you can directly make a sport-specific donation to that program. NIL expenses will now be counted as part of a sport’s operational budget. These gifts would be tax-deductible.

If you would like to support the general interests of all Virginia Tech student-athletes, a gift can be made to the Keep Jumping Fund. This non-designated fund will be allocated on a needs basis to support the name, image and likeness interests of Virginia Tech student-athletes.

The Hokie Club recommends you consult with your tax advisor before making a gift with the intention of it being tax-deductible.

Hokie fans are still able to support both Triumph NIL and The Hokie Way! Triumph NIL is a subscription-based service that connects Tech fans with Hokie student-athletes, directly backing the NIL interests of student-athletes. This includes content like meet & greets, podcasts, video shoutouts and more. Triumph NIL is also the best place to connect your business with a student-athlete! Learn more about these creative activations by visiting triumphnil.com

The Hokie Way, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, will continue to connect the charitable passions of Virginia Tech student-athletes with their NIL pursuits, working in tandem with the Virginia Tech Athletics department. To learn more, visit thehokieway.org

Student-athletes have utilized their name, image and likeness to make an impact in the community and prepare for them for their careers after Virginia Tech, whether in competition or outside of it. Over 300 Virginia Tech student-athletes agreed to an NIL deal in 2023-2024, giving them a chance to connect with local and national charities and businesses and to professionally develop along the way.

"Name, Image and Likeness is a major factor in recruiting prospective student-athletes, as well as retaining current players. Many friends of our program have stepped up in a big way to help us be competitive in this space. Continued support toward NIL is imperative as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of college athletics."

“It is necessary and important to maximize our players’ ability to earn money off their name, image and likeness. While it is easy to focus on the negative aspects of NIL, it can create positive opportunities for our student-athletes. NIL is here to stay and we have embraced it at Virginia Tech. Being competitive in college football means being competitive in the NIL space.”

“NIL is a game-changer for many student-athletes, as it gives them control over their own brand. Seeing the impact, big or small, that it has had on some of our volleyball student-athletes has been great to see.”

“The NIL experience has been educational. Aside from the financial benefits, it has taught me how to be an entrepreneur and how to market myself. I have learned how to operate in the business world and how to speak in public. NIL has provided me with opportunities to grow and develop not only as a student-athlete but as a person.”
