Hokies earn NSCAA team academic award

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. It is the third consecutive year that Tech has earned the award under Mike Brizendine.

Teams that maintained a grade point average 3.0 or higher during the academic year were honored with the award. The Hokies posted a 3.11 GPA, up a tenth of a point from the previous year. The Hokie men are one of 227 men’s teams to garner the award and Tech is one of 189 institutions to have both its men’s and women’s teams make the list.

Tech was one of four schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference to win the award, joining Duke, NC State and Wake Forest, while only Duke and NC State have matched Tech by earning the award the past three years.

It marks the fourth time overall in program history that the Hokies have won the award, first winning it in 2003.
