Renfro earns First Team All-ACC honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a stellar season that saw him reach a career total of 305 saves, senior goalkeeper Kyle Renfro was honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference with a First Team All-ACC nod as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

“I think Kyle is very deserving of this award. Our staff believes that Kyle has been the best goalkeeper in our league and I’m happy that the other coaches in our conference recognized it as well,” explained head coach Mike Brizendine. “He’s received excellent training from goalkeeper coach Chris Rich and it shows.”

Renfro has had a storied career since arriving at Tech in 2010. Since his freshman year, the senior has started and played in 63 games and has earned 14 shutouts. The Forest, Va., native also ranks third in career saves and third in career shutouts.

This season, Renfro led the ACC in total saves during the regular season with 88 saves in 17 matches played. He also ranked fourth in the ACC in save percentage with a mark of .793.

Renfro made a career high 10 saves on two occasions this year in ties against then-No. 16 Clemson and then-No. 19 Virginia. He also made nine saves in a loss to then-No. 5 Maryland. He has also saved two penalty kicks this season.

This season, Renfro has garnered national attention for his play for the Hokies. Top Drawer Soccer listed him as one of the players to watch in the upcoming MLS Super Draft.

“I’m really looking forward to see what Kyle can do with his soccer career and watching him play at the next level,” concluded Brizendine.
