Renfro signs contract to play for Charlotte Eagles

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a storied senior season, goalkeeper Kyle Renfro will continue his playing career with the Charlotte Eagles as announced by the club.

“The coaches and staff are extremely excited for Kyle and his journey into the professional ranks,” said head coach Mike Brizendine. “He has been a tremendous asset to the Hokie family these past four years and we can’t wait to see him garner success at the professional level.”

Renfro started all 17 games for the Hokies this season, leading the team with 1642 minutes logged en route to earning First Team Scholar All-America honors, Second Team All-Region honors, First Team All-State honors and became only the second Hokie to garner First Team All-ACC honors after leading the ACC in saves for the third straight year with 88 saves total.

The Forest, Va., native also had impressive sophomore and junior campaigns as he led the ACC in saves. During his sophomore year, he tallied 100 saves and during his junior season, he tallied 98 saves. Renfro ranks third all-time in career saves and career shutouts.

The Charlotte Eagles are part of the USL Professional Division, which is the third tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. The Eagles, coached by Mark Steffens, finished last season at 10-5-11 before losing in the championship match of the USL Pro Playoffs.

The Eagles’ 2014 season begins on Fri., April 4 against the Dayton Dutch Lions.
