Hokie ClubGREENSBORO, N.C. -- Fourteen members of the Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams have been named to the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
Fresh off their first-ever ACC Championship, nine H2Okie men were selected, giving Tech the most representatives of any school in the ACC, topping Notre Dame and in-state rival Virginia, who tied for the second-most with six.
Seniors Ryan Hawkins and Nick Tremols were both named to the team for the fourth consecutive year, two of just five men in the ACC to earn the honor for the fourth time this season.
Kyle Butts and Morgan Latimer, both juniors, earned their third and second selections, respectively, while juniors Harrison Cefalo and C.J. Fiala and freshmen T.J. Shinholser, Brandon Fiala and Robert Owen were all named All-ACC Academic for the first time in their careers.
For the women, junior Kelli Stockton garnered her second career selection to the team, while sophomores Weronika Paluszek and Holly Harper, as well as freshmen Ashley Buchter and Maggie Gruber all earned their first career All-Academic nods.
In all, 87 athletes from 12 schools were selected to the team. The H2Okies had the most men selected, with nine, and the second-most total student-athletes, with 14.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
