Tech ends regular season with strong showing at Stitch Intercollegiate

CARY, N.C. — Four Virginia Tech men's golfers finished in the top 20 to pace the Hokies to a fourth-place showing at the Stitch Intercollegiate, which concluded Saturday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event was held at MacGregor Downs Country Club (par 72, 6,973 yards).
 
Led by Connor Burgess' 10-under 206, Tech totaled a season-best, 34-under 830. Burgess, who tied for ninth in his second top 10 of the season, was one of three Hokies to set 54-hole career bests. The Hokies fired rounds of 275, 277 and 278.
 
Charlie Hanson and Cameron Moore also set 54-hole personal bests this weekend. Hanson tied for 14th at 7-under 209, while Moore tied for 17th at 5-under 211. Moore tied for the best par-5 score in the field at 9-under.
 
Mark Lawrence Jr. also shot 5-under 211, and Daniel Azallion carded a 2-under 214 to tie for 34th. Azallion led the field with 41 pars.
 
Tournament host and ninth-ranked NC State won its fourth straight stroke-play tournament in wire-to-wire fashion, carding a 51-under 813. No. 26 Notre Dame garnered second at 39-under 825, one shot ahead of East Tennessee State.
 
Campbell's Pontus Nyholm fired three rounds in the 60s to win medalist honors. His 17-under 199 edged NC State's Christian Salzer by three strokes.
 
With the regular season in the books, the Hokies now turn their attention to the ACC Men's Golf Championship, which runs Friday, April 23 to Monday, April 26 in Milton, Ga. Capital City Club (Crabapple Course) will serve as the host course for the conference championship.
