Hokies headed to NCAA Tournament, facing Texas Tech in first round

BLACKSBURG – The No. 31 Virginia Tech men's tennis team will face No. 26 Texas Tech in the first round of the 2021 NCAA DI Men's Tennis Championship in Athens, Georgia.
 
This appearance marks the twelfth NCAA tournament berth in the last fourteen years for the Jim Thompson's Hokies squad.
 
The Hokies (12-9, 6-6 ACC) picked up four ranked wins (Miami, Duke, VCU, and Louisville) throughout the regular season. Tech fell to No. 6 North Carolina in the ACC Championship quarterfinals, 4-2.
 
Last week, graduate student Mitch Harper was named second team All-ACC after going 7-4 this season, including two ranked wins. 
 
The Hokies place three players in the ITA singles rankings: No. 67 Alex Ribeiro, No. 91 Mitch Harper, and No. 108 Matthis Ross. Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback make up the No. 33 doubles duo in the country.
 
Virginia Tech's opponents, Texas Tech (12-4, 1-4 Big 12), fell in the first round of the Big 12 Championship to No. 18 Oklahoma State (9-11, 1-4).
