Hokie ClubTOKYO – Rising sophomore Youssef Ramadan of the Virginia Tech swimming and diving team set an Egyptian national record Thursday morning in the 100-meter butterfly to become the first Hokie to advance past prelims at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Ramadan concluded his Olympic journey by clocking a 52.27 in the night session after swimming a 51.67 in the preliminary heats to break his home country's national record.
He is one of five individuals with Virginia Tech swimming and diving ties at the Olympics. In addition to Ramadan, Antani Ivanov (Bulgaria) and Ian Ho (Hong Kong) are repping the Hokies in the pool, while Sergio Lopez Miro and Albert Subirats are coaching for Singapore and Iceland, respectively.
