WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Sophomore Kobe Valociek recorded his first career top five to pace the Virginia Tech men's golf team to a third-place showing at the Old Town Club Collegiate, which concluded Tuesday afternoon.

Entering the day in sixth place, the Hokies fired a final-round 272 (-8) – the second-best round of the day – to vault up the leaderboard three spots to claim their first top three as a team this season. They compiled a three-round total of 19-under 821, while Wake Forest won its home tournament with a 35-under 805. Southern Miss finished runner-up at 21-under 819.

Valociek, a Peoria, Arizona native, recorded three-straight rounds in the 60s for the first time in his collegiate career to tie for fourth in the 78-golfer field. He finished at 9-under 201, which is a personal best for 54 holes.

In addition to Valociek charting 12 birdies for the tournament, he holed his approach on the par-3 second to notch his first collegiate ace.

Charlie Hanson joined his classmate inside the top 20 by tying for 19th at 3-under 207. The Richmond, Virginia native carded back-to-back 68s before shooting a 1-over 71 in Tuesday's final round.

Connor Burgess, who led Tech with 13 birdies during the tournament, shot a 1-under 209 and tied for 29th. Daniel Azallion (210) and Drew Brockwell (211) tied for 35th and 44th, respectively.

Wake Forest's Alex Fitzpatrick and Michael Brennan tied for medalist honors at 12-under 198.

After a busy September to open their season, the Hokies catch a break in the action before returning to the course Oct. 10-12 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event will be hosted by East Tennessee State at Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tenn.
