Azallion goes low, leads Hokies at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. — Junior Daniel Azallion recorded his third top five of his career and first of the season to guide the Virginia Tech men's golf team to a third-place showing at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, which concluded Sunday evening. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was hosted by NC State at Lonnie Poole Golf Course (par 72, 7,358 yards).
 
Tech fired a three-round total of 4-under 860 (282-288-290). NC State stormed back to claim its home tournament at 17-under 847 (285-280-282). UNCG finished runner-up at 12-under 852.
 
Azallion, who tied for fourth, completed his 54 holes with a 6-under 210, marking the second time he has done that this season and first on a par-72 layout. He led the Hokies with 13 birdies and tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring at 3-under.
 
Connor Burgess notched his third top-20 of the season behind a 2-under 214 to tie for 13th. The senior has finished in red figures in each of Tech's four tournaments.
 
Drew Brockwell tied for 43rd at 220, followed by Charlie Hanson's 221 (t-47th) and David Stanford's 225 (t-68th). Kobe Valociek tied for 29th at 218 while competing as an individual.
 
Nick Lyerly of UNCG signed for a 10-under 206 to post a two-shot victory in the individual race.
 
Tech is next in action Feb. 20-22 at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State in Watersound, Florida.
