Hokie ClubWILMINGTON, N.C. — Virginia Tech women's golf senior Emily Mahar carded a 5-under-par 211 to finish runner-up at the Landfall Tradition, which concluded Sunday afternoon at the par 72, 6,150-yard Country Club of Landfall.
Mahar, who entered Sunday's final round in a tie for 11th at 1-under-par, surged up the leaderboard thanks to six birdies through her first nine holes. The individual title was within reach with two holes to play, when Mahar was tied with South Carolina's Justine Fournand at 6-under-par. However, back-to-back bogeys at the third and fourth holes for Mahar, coupled with an eagle by Fournand on the par-5 18th clinched the victory for the Gamecock.
It was Mahar's second straight top-10 showing after tying for eighth at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational two weeks ago. She finished that tournament at 5-under-par as well.
Behind Fournand's individual title, South Carolina cruised to the team victory at 15-under 849. The Gamecocks shot a final-round best 8-under 280. Tech finished ninth at 17-over 881.
The Hokies will now close the fall semester in the classroom before turning their attention to the spring slate, which begins Feb. 13-14 in Melbourne, Florida. The 54-hole event is the first of five tournaments Tech will compete in prior to the 2022 ACC Women's Golf Championship in mid-April.
