Hokies conclude play at ACC Men's Golf Championship

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Virginia Tech finished its time at the ACC Men's Golf Championship in 11th place after shooting a combined 12-over-par in the final round of stroke play. Tech ended with a total score of 873 after shooting a combined 3-under-par through the first two rounds at Shark's Tooth Golf Club.

The par 72, 7,246-yard layout proved to be a stern test on Saturday as five of the 12 teams competing finished over par in the final round.

Connor Burgess – the Hokies' one seed – turned in a scorecard of 4-over 76. Burgess finished as the top Tech golfer on the leaderboard, tying for 32nd at 1-over 217 in his final ACC Championship.

Both Connor Johnson Jr. and Charlie Hanson finished tied for 41st with a combined score of 4-over 220.

North Carolina captured the top seed for match play behind a 35-under 829. Georgia Tech (838), Florida State (845) and Wake Forest (847) round out the top four teams moving on to Sunday's semifinal round which will determine the two teams advancing to Monday's championship.

Clemson's Jacob Bridgeman birdied the second playoff hole, the par-4 18th, to edge North Carolina's Peter Fountain for the ACC individual title. Both golfers finished at 13-under 203.

Virginia placed seventh in the standings, four spots ahead of the Hokies. With another point secured, the Cavaliers pulled within 10.5-7.5 in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield.
