BLACKSBURG – Head coach Tony Robie announced Friday the addition of Drew Nicholson, a 165-pound graduate transfer from Chattanooga, to the Virginia Tech wrestling program.
Nicholson is a two-time NCAA qualifier and three-time SoCon place winner, winning the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler award when he captured a SoCon title during his junior campaign. The Memphis, Tn., native will have one year of eligibility remaining and is eligible to compete for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.
As a redshirt junior, Nicholson went 13-5 on the season while winning a SoCon title at 165-pounds and was named SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler after winning as the third seed and earning an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. Nicholson qualified for the NCAA for the second time by placing second at the SoCon championships during his redshirt senior season.
Nicholson joins the Hokies in his last season of eligibility by way of the COVID-granted year. The four-time SoCon All-Academic selection received his undergraduate degree in Engineering Management.
