EUGENE, Ore. – At the conclusion of women's action 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Virginia Tech racked up four All-American honors on the women's side, bringing the team's total to nine All-American honors and three Honorable Mentions.
Closing out the meet for the Hokies was Essence Henderson, who threw the discus 53.60m (175' 10") in the third round of competition. Henderson's mark saw her finish in 11th, just outside of the nine-person final, and gave her Second Team All-American status. Second Team All-American
Essence Henderson (discus)
Together, those four women racked up a total of 14 points at the NCAA Championships, seeing the Hokies tie for 17th place with NC State. Incidentally, the Hokies also tie with the Wolfpack for the highest finish of any ACC school on the women's side this year.
UP NEXT
As the NCAA track & field season has ended, most Hokies will rest and recover after a long and successful year. However, some athletes have their eyes set firmly on returning to Eugene, Ore. and Hayward Field for the USATF Championships in a couple weeks and the World Athletics Championships later in July. Qualification and announcements of entries for both those meets are still to come.
