Hokies conclude play at Fighting Irish Classic

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Virginia Tech men's golf team placed 15th at the season-opening Fighting Irish Classic hosted by Notre Dame, Sunday-Monday, at the par 70, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course.
 
The Hokies carded an 875 (289-295-291) over the 54-hole event. Florida withstood a furious rally by Georgia Southern in Monday's final round to claim the team title. The Gators put together a 21-under 819 (270-273-276) to clip the Eagles' 820 (277-275-268). Preseason No. 1 North Carolina was third at 19-under 821, followed by Notre Dame (824) and Colorado (833).
 
Daniel Azallion led Tech by tying for 41st at 3-over 213 (69-72-72). The senior recorded a team-best 11 birdies.
 
North Carolina's David Ford and Colorado's Dylan McDermott tied for medalist honors at 10-under 200.
 
UP NEXT
The Hokies will face a quick turnaround as they are back in action next weekend (Sept. 9-10) at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C.
