BLACKSBURG – For just the third time in his storied career, redshirt senior Mekhi Lewis has been named ACC Wrestler of the Week for his performance against another ranked opponent on Sunday night. Lewis marks the fourth Hokie in five weeks to be selected for the honor this season, joining Tom Crook, Caleb Henson, and Connor Brady.
Ranked No. 3 in the country, Lewis' 3-2 winning effort against Mizzou's No. 11 Peyton Mocco proved to be critical in the No. 9 Hokies' upset over the No. 7 Tigers on Sunday night in Blacksburg. The win by Lewis would help the Hokies prevail over the Tigers in their home dual opener, 17-15. Tech held a 10-9 lead heading into the 174-pound bout before Lewis added more separation to the Hokies' score with his decision victory over Mocco for the second time in their career. The victory also marks Lewis' fifth ranked win over a top-25 opponent this season.
