BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's tennis fell to No. 28 VCU at home on Sunday afternoon, 6-1.
Thus far this season the Hokies have found success in doubles with Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback being ranked No. 4 in the country as a pairing. Although, the pair suffered their first loss of the season and things seemed to go downhill from there. VCU claimed the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles.
Scott Sculley and Frank Thompson put up valiant efforts on courts 5 and 6 but were ultimately out done in the third set. The lone bright spot for the Hokies was Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza on Court 2, the Castellon, Spain native won in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(9) to pick up his first ranked victory of the year.
