BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech men's tennis team (7-9, 1-5) lost to No. 9 North Carolina (12-5, 4-1), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Tar Heels took a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point in a hard-fought match on Court 1 with the No. 32 paring of Seggerman and Kania besting Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback, 7-6(5).
It was more of the same for the Heels in singles cruising to three-straight victories in straight sets to claim the match. Ryan Fishback put together an impressive showing to win the second set but didn't have enough to top No. 45 Brian Cernoch, losing 4-6, 6-3, 2-6.
Frank Thompson prevailed in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, proving to be the lone bright spot on the day for Tech. Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza had No. 22 Ryan Seggerman on the ropes but was unable to put him away in the second set tiebreak and came up just short in the final 10-point tiebreak, 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 0-1(8).
