Price and Sabo receive call to the U-19

BLACKSBURG – Rising freshman Taylor Price of the Virginia Tech women's soccer team has been called up to the United States U-19/U-18 Women's Youth Nation Team training camp from April 12 - 19. The U.S. team will train  at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., at the University of North Carolina and at Duke University over the course of the camps.

During the four-day overlap between the U-20 and U-19/U-18 camps, the teams will scrimmage against each other while U.S. U-20 Women's Youth National Team head coach Tracey Kevins  evaluates all 46 players in preparation for choosing a 21-player roster that will compete in the 2023 Concacaf Women's Under-20 Championship which will be held from May 25-June 4 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

"We are extremely proud to hear the news of the call up and the opportunity in front of Taylor," said head coach Chugger Adair. "It is a testament to the work she puts in, her competitive spirit, and the quality freshman season that she had in the Fall. We are excited to see the youth national team is taking notice of what she has done and we are wishing Taylor the best in her first call up of many to the U.S. national program. As a group, as a team, and as a staff we are extremely proud of Taylor of how she trains daily and the effort she puts into improving her game both on and off the field."

Incoming freshman Savannah Sabo is in her fourth year as a starting goalkeeper for the Croatian national youth team. Sabo first started competing for the Croatian team in 2020 on the U-19 team recording 10 saves in a 2-2 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following year, she recorded three starts representing the U-19 team in the World Cup Qualifiers. In 2022, Sabo was the starting goalie against  Cyprus, Montenegro, and Azerbaijan. She is currently the starting keeper for the U19 Croatian women's team.

"We are happy to see the opportunities Savannah is getting on the international stage," said coach Adair. "She is gaining invaluable experience which will better prepare her to excel at the college level. We are excited for her to be on campus in the Fall to compete for Virginia Tech and her to showcase her ability!"

The Croatian U-19 team is scheduled to play the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday, April 11 in round two of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championships.
