GAINESVILLE, Fla. and AUSTIN, Texas – Kennedy Harrison, Judson Lincoln IV, Maximus James, and Amir Green broke the Virginia Tech 4x400m relay outdoor record on the second day of the Florida Relays clocking in a time of 3:06.39.
Harrison, Lincoln IV, James, and Green ran the second fastest time this season in the ACC, 11th in the Nation. The previous school record of 3:06.40 was set in 2017.
Lincoln IV started the day clocking the fastest time in the conference in the men's 400m crossing second with a personal-best time of 45.66. Harrison placed ninth with a time of 46.57.
Senior Cole Beck finished sixth in the men's 100m dash clocking a time of 10.35, ranked third in the ACC.
Jumps
Chauncey Chambers took over the men's triple jump finishing first among collegiate athletes with a personal-best distance of 53' 9.75" (16.40m). Chambers' mark ranks second in the NCAA and first in the ACC. Blanco Molualisi placed sixth in the field with a mark of 48' 1.25" (14.66m).
"I've seen a jump like this coming for Chauncey for a while and I am so glad he put it all together today," said assistant coach Paul Zalewski. "Once again it proves he is one of the best in the country."
Cierra Pyles is ranked first in the ACC women's triple jump attaining a personal-best mark of 43' 7.75" (13.30m) on her first attempt of the day. Pyles opens her outdoor triple jump season ranked fourth in the NCAA.
"I could not be happier with how Cierra performed today", said Zalewski. "For her to come away with two personal-bests with an hours time is fantastic, especially this early in the season. As we keep working, it will be a lot of fun to see how she continues to improve."
Plyes came straight from the 100m hurdles where she ran a personal-best time of 13.64.
Throws
Katrin Brzyszkowska and Katie Seyfang earned a spot into the women's shot put finals finishing fourth (52' 10.75" (16.12m)) and eighth (50' 8.75" (15.46m)) in a field of 24 athletes. Brzyszkowska started the day with a personal-best throw of 151' 04" (46.13m) in the discus. In the women's shot put invite, Essence Henderson placed sixth putting a season-best distance of 52' 1.25" (15.88m)
Tyson Jones represented the men's throws squad on day two competing in the shot put invite and discus events. Jones finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 59' 10.50" (18.25m), and sixth in the discus throwing 155' 11" (47.53m).
Texas Relays - Women's Pole Vault
Freshman Kenna Stimmel continued her outdoor season in Texas taking on some of the best female pole vaulters in the Nation. Stimmel tied the 2023 NCAA indoor champion from Arkansas, Amanda Fassold, clearing a height of 14' 7.25" (4.45m). Stimmel was awarded third as a result of missing her first attempt at 14' 3.25" (4.35m), Fassold cleared on her first attempt. Journey Gurley placed eighth clearing a season-best height of 13' 7.25" (4.15m).
Virginia Tech volunteer assistant coach Bridget Williams won the women's elite pole vault section clearing 14' 3.50" (4.36m) on her first attempt. Rachel Baxter,volunteer assistant coach, placed fifth clearing 14' 3.50" (4.36m) on her third attempt.
