BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech wrestling head coach Tony Robie announced the promotion of assistant coach Jared Haught and the appointment of Tucker Davidson as chief of staff, effective Monday, July 24, 2023. Haught was previously volunteer assistant for the past three years after a storied career with the Hokies. Davidson enters his sixth season with the program after serving as the director of wrestling operations for the previous five years on staff.
Haught continues to call Blacksburg home after a legendary career donning the orange and maroon – NCAA finalist (second in program history), three-time NCAA All-American, two-time ACC champion, and four-time All-ACC Academic – with his elevation from volunteer assistant to assistant coach. During his time on staff with the Hokies, the Parkersburg, WV native has helped mentor four ACC champions and three All-Americans. Haught's mentorship was also integral Mekhi Lewis' second finals appearance – the first two-time finalist in program history.
"With the exception of a one-year haitus upon graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech, Jared Haught, has been part of our program since 2013 when he arrived on campus as a true freshman. It's been awesome to see Jared's growth over the course of the past decade. He embodies our approach of "how you do anything is how you do everything." I believe that Jared's coaching career is mirroring his career as an athlete – he just keeps getting better. Jared has been an integral part of our staff for several years and that will not change; we are however, thrilled that he can now be employed by Virginia Tech," mentioned Robie.
Davidson is a 2016 graduate of Virginia Tech and earned his master's degree in Sport Management from Old Dominion in May 2018. A key and vital member of head coach Tony Robie's staff, as chief of staff, Davidson will continue to serve as the program's point of contact with all departments within Virginia Tech Athletics and is heavily involved with other key areas including program operations and logistics, alumni outreach, recruiting visits, and matchday events. No stranger to Hokies Wrestling before assuming his current role within the program, the Virginia Beach native worked as team manager for four years while attaining his bachelor's in business administration at Virginia Tech.
"People who are close to our program know that Tucker Davidson is the man behind the scenes that keeps things running smoothly. We believe in rewarding hard work and competency and that is why Tucker has been promoted to Chief of Staff for Virginia Tech Wrestling. Tucker is critical to our staff and athletes in every aspect of what we do. This is nothing short of well-deserved," said Robie.
