BLACKSBURG – Following practice on Wednesday, Virginia Tech football met with the media for a media availability.

Read below to see what head coach Brent Pry, linebacker Keli Lawson and wide receivers coach Fontel Mines had to say.

Head Coach Brent Pry

On Coach Mines and the new wide receivers:

"It's challenging, honestly, I think it's a credit to the whole team. You bring in some older guys in from the portal to take and compete for jobs, and our guys embraced it. I told them in a team meeting that it's our job and my job to build the most competitive roster we can. That's good for all of us; we all want to win a championship, and these are the things that are necessary for us to do. Nobody wants to shy away from competition; if somebody walks in the room that's a good player and going to be a good competitor for you, you should embrace that, and they've done a great job with it. It is Coach Mines, Coach [J.C.] Price, and Coach [Derek] Jones. I mean, you have to cultivate that, and that goes back to our culture and the foundation of who we want to be."

Linebacker Keli Lawson

On his improvements:

"Really, it's just my comfort with the position. I feel as though I'm way more sound in the box and I do possess the ability to go outside. I'm feeling truthfully as an all-around threat."

Wide Receivers Coach Fontel Mines

On Stephen Gosnell's consistency:
"I'm really excited, I was excited about him last year so that hasn't changed. His consistency and being the same person every day, it means so much to this team and it means so much just to this offense. When you know what to expect, trust somebody and know he's going to be in the right spot then the quarterbacks trust you and I trust you. That generally leads to more playing time."
