Virginia Tech football wrapped up the opening half of its season's first away game against Rutgers. The Hokies trail the Scarlet Knights 21-3 heading into the second half.
Quarterback Kyron Drones made his debut as a starter for Virginia Tech in today's game, showcasing his athleticism by accumulating 42 rushing yards throughout the first half and 84 passing yards.
For the first score of the game, kicker John Love knocked in a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to shorten Rutgers' lead.
Receivers Da'Quan Felton and Ayden Greene both had impressive receptions coming out of the first half, with Felton catching a 15-yard pass and Greene catching a 12-yard pass. Running back Bhayshul Tuten made advancements as well, with a 12-yard punt return in the first quarter.
Defensively, the Hokies have consistently forced incomplete passes from Rutgers quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, going 4-11. Safety Jalen Stroman registered three solo tackles heading out of the first half, with linebacker Keli Lawson and cornerback Derrick Canteen finishing with three total tackles.
Virginia Tech will defend, and Rutgers will receive to start the second half.
