Gorlova captures fifth career ACC title

ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech's Victoria Gorlova claimed her fifth career ACC Championship title finishing first in long jump on day two of the 2024 ACC Outdoor Championships in Atlanta, Ga.

Gorlova won the event jumping 20' 9" (6.32m) on her fifth attempt of the day. She qualified for the finals with a third round mark of 6.18m. Gorlova added 10 points the Hokies' score moving the women into second place with 43 points at the end of day two.
 
Decathlete Sean Murphy crushed the Hokies program record scoring 7532 points. Murphy started the day in second with 3992 points after the first five events on day one.
 
He placed first in the javelin with a third round throw of 191' 9 (58.45m) and fourth in the 1500m with a personal-best time of 4:43.40. His overall score of 7532 points ranks 16th in the NCAA.
 
The qualifying window closes for conference championship meets on Monday, May 13. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the NCAA Outdoor Championships. 
 
Throws
Sophomore Katrin Brzyszkowska added eight points to the team's score finishing second in shot put with a personal-best mark of 55' 11.25" (17.05m). Brzyszkowska earned her third career First-Team All-ACC honors finishing within the top three at the conference championships. She ranks 23rd in the nation and third on the Hokies' All-Time Performance List.
 
Pole Vault  
Freshman Chiara Sistermann cleared a personal-best height of 14' 0" (4.27m) in the women's pole vault finishing third, seven points. Sistermann jumped clean through 13' 8.25" (4.17m), securing her spot in the top four.
 
Kennedy Drish earned second-team All-ACC honors finishing sixth at a height 13' 4.25" (4.07m).
 
Distance
Mary Kate McGranahan clocked a personal-best time of 10:23.50 in the women's steeplechase finishing seventh, scoring two points.

Junior Declan Rymer finished eighth in the men's race with a season-best time of 8:49.17.  
 
In the women's 800m Prelims, Lindsey Butler and Star Price earned automatic qualifying spots into the finals winning both of their heats in the prelims.
 
Butler clocked the fastest time of the day crossing the finish line at 2:04.57. Price recorded a time of 2:08.21 in heat one. The women's 800m final is schedule for 6:50 p.m. on Saturday.
Junior Nick Plant advanced to the finals in the men's 800m finishing first in his heat with a time of 1:48.95. The men's 800m finals is set for 6:40 p.m.
 
Sprints
Sophomore Judson Lincoln IV qualified for the 400m finals recording the fastest time of the day in the prelims at 45.32. Kennedy Harrison clocked the sixth fastest time at 46.69, advancing to the finals with Lincoln at 6:00 p.m.
