BLACKSBURG – Tuesday's baseball game between Virginia Tech and James Madison was halted by inclement weather and declared no contest with the Hokies trailing the Dukes, 2-1, after two innings of play at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
Per NCAA rules, game statistics from Tuesday's affair will not count. The game will not be rescheduled.
Prior to the game's ultimate suspension after 44 minutes of play, Virginia Tech (32-17) had chipped one run off JMU's two-run lead with all scoring taking place during the first inning.
James Madison (30-20) opened with a leadoff single by Ryan Dooley and soon loaded the bases three batters into the contest before the Hokies could pick up an out. Tech starter Madden Clement was able to strike out JMU cleanup hitter Jason Schiavone on three pitches, through was responsible for surrendering the two-RBI single by Wyatt Peifer that put the Dukes on top.
Clement recovered to strike out Coleman Calabrese and Brendan O'Donnell, back-to-back, to end the JMU threat, giving Tech's lineup a chance to work itself into the ballgame. On cue, leadoff second baseman Christian Martin peppered a solo home run to right center field, trimming the Hokies' deficit in half.
Rain continued to worsen during a scoreless second inning between the two sides. Gehrig Ebel squeaked in a one-out single during the bottom of the second inning before the game was called at 3:44 p.m.

Virginia Tech will conclude the regular season with a three-game ACC series at No. 18 Virginia beginning on Thursday, May 16. First pitch times between the Hokies and the Cavaliers at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
