Alum Neil Gourley set to compete in 2024 Olympic Games

Neil Gourley, a 2018 alum from the track and field and cross country programs, is ready to race the 1500m in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

PARIS, France - 2018 track and field alum, Neil Gourley, is set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the 1500m.  Gourley is representing Great Britain in the Games, as a native of Glasgow, Scotland.  

In his time at Virginia Tech, Gourley was an NCAA National Champion in the DMR, earned USTFCCCA Southeast Region Indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Year honors, was a four-time All-American, and earned eight All-ACC selections.  The distance runner broke multiple program and meet records in his five years at Tech and was coached by legend, Dave Cianelli, and now-Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Ben Thomas.

In order to qualify for the Great Britain Olympic team, Gurley ran a career-best 3:37.67 in the 1500m and placed first overall at the Great Britain Trials in late June and early July.
