Four Hokies in double figures not enough to overcome Cavaliers Thursday night

Tech falls 73-65 to in-state rival

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped by rival Virginia Thurssday night in a 73-65 loss on Carilion Clinic Court. A tie game at the half, the Cavaliers used a 27-12 advantage in the third period to guide them to their first win in Balcksburg since 2020.

The Hokies are 12-5 (3-3) heading into the weekend while UVA is 11-7 (3-3).

Reigning ACC Player of the Week Rose Micheaux once again led the Hokies by scoring 15 points (7-14 from the field). She also led Tech with nine rebounds in the game. She was joined in double figures by Matilda Ekh (14), Lani White (12) and Carys Baker (11). For Baker it was her sixth consecutive game scoring 10 or more.

The result gives the Cavaliers a half point in the Commonwealth Clash, presented by Smithfield. The score for the Commonwealth Clash currently is 5.5-1.0 in favor of Virginia. For more information visit hokiesports.com/commonwealth-clash.
