CHARLOTTE - After a 3-3 start to the game, the Virginia Tech lacrosse team reeled off five consecutive goals to break the game open and establish a lead that would not be threatened again as the Hokies cruised to a 21-10 victory at Queen Wednesday afternoon.

Attacker Lauren Render once again led the way for Tech. The junior tallied eight goals in the game, an output that is tied for the third-best for a single game in program history. Through six games, she owns 26 goals and 28 total points, both team bests.

She was joined in the scoring column by eight Hokies including Katie McCarthy who recorded her first goal of the season and Ava Romanello who's tally in the final seconds was the first of her career.

On the defensive side, Aaliyah Jones once again earned the victory by making eight saves.

Tech was dominant in the circle winning 24 of the game's 37 draw controls. Freshman Maggie Flabagan registered 13 of them, the first game in her young career securing a double digit number of draw controls.

It was the first time since Feb. 17, 2024 that the Hokies had scored 20 or more goals and the fifth time achieving the feat under Kristen Skiera. Her clubs have secured at least one 20-goal game in each of her four seasons in Blacksburg.

The Hokies now turn their attention back to ACC play and their season debut on Thompson Field on Saturday, March 1 when they play host to No. 1 and defending national champion Boston College. That match will begin at 11 a.m. and can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
