BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Mike Brizendine announced the elevation of Matt Watts to associate head coach Friday morning. Watts enters his second season in Blacksburg in 2025 ahead of what figures to be an exciting season on the pitch for the Hokies.

“Coach Watts has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, loyalty, and a deep commitment to our program’s success,” Brizendine said Friday. “His promotion to associate head coach reflects the impact he’s had on our student-athletes and the culture we’ve built. I’m excited to continue working alongside him as we push this program forward.”

Watts came to Blacksburg following eight years in charge of Nova Southeastern (DII), posting a 64-44-14 record with the Sharks. His tenure was highlighted by a Final Four run in 2021, while his program claimed its first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) title in the same year.

The Hokies’ 2025 season is right around the corner with training beginning early next week. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Hokies’ season opening fixture against Ohio State on Aug. 21 at Thompson Field.

With a mix of returning talent and newcomers, the Hokies are ready to kick off a great season.
