BLACKSBURG – Loading up on emerging collegiate talent from the transfer portal this offseason, the Virginia Tech baseball team and head coach John Szefc are proud to welcome five new transfer pitchers to the program ahead of the 2026 season.
The Hokies are excited to welcome to campus left-handers Danny Lazaro (Tampa, Florida, via St. Johns River State College) and Brody Roe (Stillwater, Oklahoma, via Kansas State) as well as right-handers Aiden Robertson (Manchester, Tennessee, via Walters State Community College), Peyton Smith (Springfield, Tennesseee, via Texas A&M) and Ben Weber (Saint Paul, Minnesota, via Xavier).
Left-hand Pitcher / Jr. / 5-10 / 195 / Tampa, Fla. / Tampa Catholic High School / St. Johns River State College
- Ranked as the nation’s No. 241 overall left-handed pitcher in the Class of 2023 by Perfect Game.
- Ranked as the No. 266 overall recruit and No. 29 left-handed pitcher from Florida in the Class of 2023 by Perfect Game.
- Chalked a 4.44 ERA spanning 15 starts and 71 innings pitched during his 2025 sophomore season at St. Johns River State College; recorded 78 strikeouts.
Right-hand Pitcher / Jr. / 6-1 / 180 / Manchester, Tenn. / Coffee County Central High School / Walters State C.C.
- Ranked as the No. 107 overall recruit and No. 30 right-handed pitcher from Tennessee in the Class of 2023 by Perfect Game.
- Sported a 4.12 ERA and a 13-1 record during his 2025 sophomore season at Walters State Community College, making 18 starts; registered 130 strikeouts spanning 89 and two-thirds innings pitched.

- Ranked as the No. 4 overall recruit and No. 2 right-handed pitcher from Tennessee in the Class of 2021 by Perfect Game.
- Has made collegiate stops at Dallas Baptist (2023) and at Texas A&M (2024, 2025), totaling 11 and one-third innings pitched.

- Ranked as the No. 34 overall recruit and No. 9 right-handed pitcher from Minnesota in the Class of 2022 by Perfect Game.
- Commands a career 5.43 ERA spanning 56 appearances (32 starts) at Air Force (2023, 2024) and at Xavier (2025).
- Has tallied 207 career innings pitched and recorded 118 career strikeouts.
