Career Bests Across the Line as Hokies Take 14th at NCAA Cross Country Championships

Virginia Tech’s 14th-place finish marks its best showing at the NCAA Championships since 1987, when the Hokies placed fourth.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — George Couttie posted a career best to lead a Virginia Tech squad in which all seven runners recorded personal bests, earning All-America honors for the second time and powering the Hokies to a 14th-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.

Men’s 10K

Couttie paced the Hokies with a career-best 28:47.4, placing 10th and remaining in the top 20 throughout the race. The performance secured his second consecutive All-America finish after he placed 14th last year in 29:07.4.

His season was also highlighted by NCAA Southeast All-Region honors with a fourth-place finish in 29:36.2. Earlier, he ran a season-best 22:54.4 to place fourth at the ACC Championships, earning his second All-ACC award. He also recorded a runner-up finish at the Panorama Farms Invitational in 23:10.4.

Nicholas Kipchirchir was second across the line for the Hokies, running a personal-best 29:43.6 for 114th. His season included his second NCAA Southeast All-Region honor (then-PR 30:04.0, 17th), his first All-ACC accolade (20th in 23:18.8 for 8K), and a third-place finish at the Panorama Farms Invitational (23:17.6).

Declan Rymer capped his season with a career best, placing 114th in 29:48.2 as the team’s third finisher. Linus Chepkochei followed in 131st with a personal-best 29:49.0, and Garrett Winter placed 189th in 30:23.3. Ethan Coleman rounded out Tech’s scoring in 201st, running a career-best 30:29.8.
