ATHENS, Ga. – No. 17/20 Virginia Tech opened the Georgia Classic with wins over Seton Hall and Utah State on Friday at Jack Turner Softball Stadium.

Tech’s depth was on full display once again as nine different Hokies recorded a hit on the day.

Game One • No. 20 Virginia Tech 7, Seton Hall 2
Jordan Lynch got the scoring started for the Hokies in the top of the second with a solo shot to right field. In the top of the third, Nora Abromavage capitalized on a wild pitch and a couple of Pirate errors to score.

The Hokies added three more runs in the top of the fourth. Kylie Aldridge recorded a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 before Zoe Yaeger drilled a two-RBI single through the left side to extend the lead to 5-0.

Despite Seton Hall scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth, Tech held strong with two more runs in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back RBI hits from Lynch and Sara McNelly extended the Hokie lead to 7-1. The Pirates threatened once more with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Addyson Fisher got the Hokies out of the bases-loaded jam.

Sophie Keiman earned the win for the Hokies after pitching 4.0 innings and only allowing three hits.

Game Two • No. 20 Virginia Tech 10, Utah State 3
Tech trailed 2-0 almost immediately, but the Hokies responded just as quickly. An RBI double from Kylie Aldridge scored the first run of the game and a solo home run to center field by Emma Mazzarone tied the game in the bottom of the second.

The Hokies’ offense exploded for runs in the bottom of the third. Annika Rohs delivered a sacrifice fly to give Tech its first lead of the afternoon, while Zoe Yaeger ripped a bases-clearing three-RBI double to make it a 6-2 game.

Gaby Mizelle’s first career triple drove in two more runs and Haley Luginbill earned a hit as well with an RBI double to make it 9-2. A sacrifice fly from Zoe Yaeger – her fourth RBI of the day – gave Tech a 10-2 lead.

Utah State added one run in the top of the fifth to prevent the run-rule victory but were unable to score any more.
