BLACKSBURG, Va. – Despite wins from Ilyas Fahim, Victor Kimpel, and Drew Fishback, Tech falls just short to Middle Tennessee in home opener Thursday night, 4-3.
Though the Hokies dropped the doubles point to open the match, they started battling back in singles. Fahim got the Hokies on the board, evening the score with a 6-1, 7-5 win over No. 115 Ondrej Horak.
After Middle Tennessee took a 2-1 lead, Kimpel tied the score again, winning 7-6 (5), 6-4.
The match came down to Courts No. 2 and 4, with close third-set matches. Fishback rounded out the match with a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) victory.
UP NEXT: The Hokies host Davidson Sunday, Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
