BLACKSBURG – With wins on all six singles courts, the Hokies triumph over Davidson Sunday afternoon.
Tech started the match off strong by taking the doubles point. Victor Kimpel and Julian Lozano took home a 6-3 win. Shortly after, Frank Thompson and Drew Fishback clinched the doubles point also by a score of 6-3, giving the Hokies an early lead. Eyal Shumilov and Blake Hilsen were leading 5-3 when their match was abandoned.
The Hokies got off to a hot start in singles, with Patrik Jurina starting the squad off with a 6-1, 6-2 win on Court No. 2.
Tech played a dominant singles round, winning every match in two sets. Fishback added another notch for the Hokies, winning by the same score. Kimpel sealed the Hokies victory, clinching the match on Court No. 5 by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Lozano, Hilsen, and Ilyas Fahim were also victorious. Lozano won 6-2, 6-4, Hilsen 6-3, 6-3, and Fahim 7-6 (1), 6-1, to close out the match.
UP NEXT: The Hokies head to Norfolk to face Old Dominion Friday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m., and return home to host Bellarmine Sunday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m.
