Hokies suffer first loss of season to Indiana

Tech won the doubles point in exciting fashion

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Hokies fall in their first match of the season to the Indiana Hoosiers, 4-1.

Tech opened the match strongly in doubles play as Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets-Segura won their match 6–2 over Indiana’s Elisabeth Dunac and Li Hsin Lin. On Court 3, Elizaveta Castillo and Laima Frosch fell to Nicole Teodosescu and Chase Boyer, 6-4.

This left Arina Gamretkaia and Özlem Uslu to battle for the clinching point. The senior duo battled through and defeated Ale Teodosescu and Hi’ilani Williams, 7-6(3).

In singles, four Hokies dropped two-set matches to the Hoosiers to give Indiana the dual match win.

Uslu and Kirsten Woods were in a third set when the match was called after splitting the first two sets with their respective opponents.

UP NEXT: Tech returns to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Friday, February 14, at 11 a.m. against Navy.
