BLACKSBURG – On Friday afternoon, the Hokies secured a 4-2 ACC victory over No. 65 UNC.
Tech got off to a strong start in doubles play. Frank Thompson and Drew Fishback opened the match with a 6-2 win. Ilyas Fahim and Patrik Jurina followed with a 7-6 (7-4) victory over the No. 34 duo of Chris Xu and Niels Ratiu, clinching the doubles point for the Hokies. The match featuring Blake Hilsen and Eyal Shumilov went unfinished while tied in a tiebreak at 6-6 (6-7).
The Hokies carried that momentum into singles competition. Ilyas Fahim delivered the first singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory, followed by Patrik Jurina, who defeated No. 42 Roan Jones 6-2, 6-4.
North Carolina attempted to rally, claiming two singles points, but Eyal Shumilov sealed the match for Tech. Facing No. 82 Ian Mayhew, Shumilov battled through a three-set match to clinch the final point, winning 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-2.
