Zoey McFadyen earns first collegiate win as Hokies collect eight podium finishes on final day

MIAMI, Fla. The Virginia Tech track and field team concluded the opening weekend of the outdoor season with two athletes moving into the program’s all-time top 10 lists and eight podium finishes on the final day of the Hurricane Invitational in Miami. 

On day two of competition, Zoey McFadyen opened the day with her first collegiate event win in the 400 meters, clocking 54.52. Farah Nasir followed closely in second place with a time of 55.39. 

In the men’s 400 meters, Elijah Mosley etched his name into the program’s top 10 list after winning the event in 46.46, securing the No. 8 spot. Mosley also ranks No. 10 on the indoor top 10 list for the 400 meters with a mark of 47.57. He was joined on the podium by Armaan Dhillon, who placed third with a personal best of 48.72. 

Nabil Tezkratt had a strong opener in the 200 meters, winning the event with a time of 21.05. Calvin Meyer added a third-place finish with a 21.16 performance. 

The Hokie throwers also ended the weekend on a high note. Denzs Simmonds won the men’s shot put with a mark of 17.22m (56’6”), earning the No. 9 spot on the program’s outdoor top 10 list. Simmonds also holds the No. 7 spot on the indoor list at 18.14m (59’6.25”). Katrin Brzyszkowska captured first in the women’s shot put with a mark of 16.79m (55’1”). 

Up Next 
Virginia Tech will divide its squad next week, competing at the Raleigh Relays (March 26–28 in Raleigh, N.C.) and the Terry Long Florida State Relays (March 26–27 in Tallahassee, Fla.).
