RADFORD, Va. – No. 11/12 Virginia Tech (34-5, 9-3 ACC) defeated Radford (18-20, 5-4 Big South) 7-2 in a Tuesday midweek matchup at Radford Softball Park.

Home runs from Kylie Aldridge, Michelle Chatfield and Addison Foster powered the Hokies past the Highlanders.

How It Happened
The Hokies got on the board immediately with a leadoff bomb for Addison Foster – her sixth of the season – to put Tech up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

Radford threatened with runners on in each of the first two innings, but Avery Layton tallied three strikeouts over the two frames to keep the Highlanders off the board.

Tech saw five runs cross home plate in the top of the third. After back-to-back singles from Foster and Jordan Lynch, Nora Abromavage doubled down the left field line to bring them both home. Michelle Chatfield traded places with her immediately as she doubled to right center on the first pitch to put the Hokies up 4-0.

With a runner on second, Kylie Aldridge blasted her sixth home run of the season to extend the Hokie lead to 6-0.

Radford got on the board with one run in the bottom of the third, but Tech maintained its commanding lead. Chatfield joined in on the home run party with a solo shot to dead center in the top of the fifth to make it 7-1.

Layton threw 5.0 innings with four strikeouts before Sophie Kleiman entered and threw 2.0 innings in relief. The Highlanders scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh but could not score enough to force extras.
