Christopher John, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

Responsibilities: As a sports medicine physician at Carilion Clinic’s Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences, Dr. John specializes in shoulder, elbow and knee arthroscopy; rotator cuff, shoulder and elbow instability; elbow tendonitis and all knee sports injuries. He is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He was named Section Chief of the Sports Medicine Service at Carilion Clinic in 2022 and was named Vice Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics in January 2026. He has served as the team physician for Virginia Military Institute since 2006, as well as being a team physician for Southern Virginia University, Hollins University, and multiple high schools in the region.

Personal: When Dr. John is not in the office, he enjoys swimming, tennis, fishing, travel, and watching his children’s sports teams. Swam collegiately at UNC, was team captain in 1994 and member of 3 ACC Championship teams. He is married and has three children.
