Joined VT Athletics Department: 2013
Prior to Virginia Tech: Dave Gittings Jr. has served student‑athletes and coaches for more than two decades through leadership roles with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Before joining Virginia Tech Football in 2013, he served as an FCA Area Director and Multi‑Area Director through building staff and chaplain’s programs across Georgia. From 2004–2013, he served as Chaplain for Glynn Academy HS Football team and the College of Coastal Georgia men’s basketball program, providing team support and character development. His experience also includes pregame chapels for collegiate and professional teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Gittings is a member of FCA’s National Chaplains Leadership Team, helping support and strengthen chaplaincy efforts across the country.
As Metro Area Director, Gittings oversees FCA staff serving teams at Virginia Tech, Radford University, and the New River and Roanoke Valley, coordinating community engagement and leadership support for coaches and athletes across multiple campuses.
Education: Schenley High School; United States Navy veteran; continued theological and leadership development through The Tony Evans Training Center, Charles Stanley Institute, FCA Coaches Ministry Academy, FCA Institute of Sports Ministry, and Ashland Theological Seminary.
Personal: A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dave and his wife, Kim, live in Christiansburg, Virgina and are active in several community and family initiatives connected to Virginia Tech and the New River Valley. They have four children and three granddaughters and one grandson.
