Director of Player Development

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2026

Prior to Virginia Tech: Smith returned to Virginia Tech in 2026 as director of player development with extensive experience focused on student-athlete support and performance development at the collegiate level.

Smith joined the Hokies from Rutgers, where he served as Assistant Director of Player Development under head coach Greg Schiano (2024-25). He previously worked on the strength and conditioning staff at Boise State (2023) after beginning his professional career at Rutgers as a Player Development Assistant in 2022.

Education: Virginia Tech, 2018 (B.S. in criminology); Virginia Tech, 2019 & 2021 (M.Ed in instructional technology & M.S. in agriculture and life sciences)

Personal: A former Virginia Tech offensive lineman, Smith spent seven seasons in Blacksburg and served as a three-time team captain while appearing in 67 career games. In 2018, he received the university’s Black Male Excellence Network Leadership Award in recognition of his impact and leadership within the campus community.

Smith is a native of North Brunswick, New Jersey.
