Hokie ClubBIRMINGHAM, Ala. - First-team All-American Hanna Green concluded competition for the Virginia Tech track & field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday afternoon.
Green led from the get-go in the 800 meters final, earning the start in lane one. However, Oregon’s Raevyn Rogers saved her kick for the remaining 100 meters to take the championship crown.
"Hanna (Green) ran a very smart and agressive race today, despite not feeling her best after a tough prelim yesterday," head cross country and distance coach Ben Thomas said. "Hanna shook it off and ran a much more agressive race today. She made all the right moves, giving herself a chance to win."
Green earned the Hokies their fourth All-America honors at the 2016 Championships with her second place finish in 2:05.90, also marking the best finish of Tech’s middle-dance runners at the Championship meet. The junior from Latrobe, Pennsylvania is now a four-time All-American in the 800 meters.
"I am very proud of Hanna and Shannon (Morton) on a great indoor season," Thomas said.
At the conclusion of the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Tech’s men finished 15th with 13.50 points while the women’s team placed 25th with 8.0 points.
The Hokies quickly transition to the outdoor season, traveling to the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Florida.
