Kenna Stimmel named ACC Women's Indoor Freshman of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Kenna Stimmel and Virginia Tech director of track and field & cross country Dave Cianelli have been awarded ACC Indoor track and field honors, announced the ACC on Wednesday.

Kenna Stimmel earned ACC Women's Indoor Freshman of the Year placing first in pole vault at the ACC Indoor Championships clearing 14'5.25" (4.40m). She finished fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships clearing the same height earning her USTFCCCA First-Team All-American honors. Stimmel distinguishing herself from all other freshmen in the field being the only freshman to qualify and compete at the NCAA Championships in the pole vault event on both the men's and women's side. She ended the regular season ranked first in the ACC with a personal-best height of 14' 7.25" (4.45m). 

Director Dave Cianelli was awarded both the men's and women's indoor coach of the year titles for a second consecutive year. Cianelli led the men's team to their third straight ACC indoor title scoring 110.5 points, over 30 points from second place Florida State. The women's team won a second straight indoor title with a score of 93 points. Under Cianelli's leadership the Virginia Tech track and field program has claimed 20 ACC titles.
