LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Emma Pelkowski was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Team of the Week, the site announced on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
"We are extremely proud of Emma being named to the team," said head coach Chugger Adair. "I think she is somebody who is consistent day in and day out, and she always gives 100 percent. She is always working her tail off to make a commitment to our team and the success of our program. We were excited that she was able to get on the scoreboard this weekend and help us get two important road wins."
Pelkowski recorded six points in the Hokies last two matches with two goals and two assists in ACC play. She logged her first career brace in Virginia Tech's 4-0 shutout over Syracuse.
Pelkowski came out strong against Syracuse scoring her first goal of the season in the sixth minute. She launched the ball 25-yards high right into the net just outside the goalkeeper's reach to give the Hokies a 1-0 lead.
She then assisted Natalie Mitchell with a go around goal in the 26th minute. In the 48th minute, Pelkowski was left open by the Syracuse defenders allowing her to record her first career brace, and the final goal of the match.
The Hokies' are currently fifth in the ACC with a conference record of 2-1. Tech will next host Wake Forest on Friday, September 29 at Thompson Field. Kickoff time is set for 7:05 p.m.
