BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with the local media following its practice on Wednesday, with Brent Pry speaking first on the preparation heading into Saturday and joined by position coach Elijah Brooks and ACC specialist of the week Bhayshul Tuten.

Read below to see what they had to say.

Head Coach Brent Pry

On freshmen getting valuable game reps on special teams:
"Yeah, really important. You know, it's a great gauge for us. The evaluation, what they can do and then for them, it's just experience of playing in the game. It's super valuable. You got to try and convince them that a lot of these guys maybe weren't big special team guys in high school. You know, they were starters maybe on both sides of the ball. But, the growth that we can see, the trust that they can earn through their special teams play, it's really important. It's a big part of what we need right now. Those guys got to continue to come on for the second half of the season and help us in that area."

Running Backs Coach Elijah Brooks

On Tuten's route running out of the backfield:
"Yeah, he is very meticulous about, learning how to run routes and improve on his routes and understanding spacing and speed and timing. He understands that his intentions are to play at the next level and as a running back, you can't be one-dimensional. He's doing a fantastic job of improving in the past game each week."

Running Back Bhayshul Tuten

On the recent success running the ball:
"I think just the O-line in general, they're just playing harder. They're playing smarter. They're just being dominant right now. Then me and Malachi Thomas, we're just running hard, just making plays. I think that and then Kyron, he's doing a great job running as a dual threat. So, I think that's what's helping us open up this offense."
