BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech women’s basketball will continue its postseason run in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) on Sunday when it plays host to Texas Tech at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. The Hokies and Lady Raiders will tip off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+, with an opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals.

Sunday afternoon will mark Virginia Tech’s second postseason matchup in Blacksburg. Help create the vital home court advantage that only Hokie Nation can provide by getting seats to the game today!

Head coach Megan Duffy and company are set up well to build off a strong performance in the opening round against North Carolina A&T. The Hokies’ victory was charged by Lani White’s 18-point outing and strong production off the bench. Mackenzie Nelson led the team in minutes (34) while posting 11 points and six assists as the primary option from the reserves.

Freshmen Kayl Petersen and Leila Wells also received valuable minutes with the second unit, which could pay huge dividends in the upcoming contest. Petersen’s team-high eight rebounds and five blocks have a great impact on the defensive side of the floor. Wells made an appearance across the stat sheet (4 pts., 3 reb., 2 ast. and 2 stl.), showcasing her growth.

The Hokies will face a Big 12 program that handily beat the fourth-seeded Wyoming Cowgirls 65-48 on their home floor. Texas Tech leaned on the production of guards Bailey Maupin and Jasmine Shaver, who both posted 17 points in their first round matchup.

The Lady Raiders’ defensive prowess is what stands out from their win against Wyoming, holding the Cowgirls to just six points in the second quarter and only eight points in the third quarter. Limiting their opponent to 34.7% shooting from the field highlights Texas Tech’s ability to play team defense.

The Hokies will face another stiff test on Sunday afternoon, but they should find success through their scrappy play on defense and quality shooting on the perimeter. Make your weekend even better by cheering on the Hokies in the WBIT second round. Get your tickets now!
