GREENSBORO, N.C. – After an exciting regular season in which the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team won 18 games and earned a bye in the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, senior Matilda Ekh joined Evan Hughes on the final installment of this season’s The Megan Duffy Show.

For Ekh, the ACC tournament represents an opportunity to make her mark and guide the Hokies into the postseason.

“It’s been amazing,” Ekh said of the 2024-25 basketball season. “It’s been a challenge to me to be more of a leader off the court, that’s something that I’ve been wanting to develop and something the coaches have been challenging me with all year. It’s been really good for me preparing me for the next stop after college”.

For Ekh and her teammates, hopefully that next step is a long way away. They know that they have work to do to position themselves for the NCAA field. At 18-11 (9-9), the Hokies own a NET position of 47 and sit on the bubble. A good showing in Greensboro would go a long way to determining which postseason tournament the Hokies participate in.

Ekh who averages a career-best 12.2 points per game has been hot of late shooting 56% and scoring better than 14 per game in the last six.

In the month of February she scored in double figures in six of seven games and averaged 16.3 ppg. including her only 20-point game of the season, leading Tech to a win over SMU with a 23-point performance.

For Megan Duffy, who has had her fair share of success in conference tournaments, the ACC has presented a new challenge. “I’m just very impressed, it’s one of the reasons I came here to the ACC,” she said of the strength of the conference. “The players, the coaches, it has challenged me every day.”

One of those challenges has been navigating tight games that come down to the wire. Each of the Hokies’ final four regular season games were decided by a single possession, and dating back to Feb. 2, seven of the last eight had final margins of eight or less.

For Coach Duffy and the program, they are operating with an “empty the tank” mindset, the philosophy that you must give everything you’ve got each day to accomplish your goals.

The first goal in front of this team: beating Georgia Tech on Thursday afternoon.
