CHARLOTTE - In the ACC quarterfinals, the top-seeded and top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels got out to a 4-0 lead in the first six minutes before Tech could get on the board and begin to chip away. The closest that the Hokies could get was 4-2 before a 7-0 barrage spanning into the second quarter for the Heels put the game out of reach.
The Hokies fall to 9-9 on the season with an RPI of 27 and will await the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, May 4.
Render, who was named to the ACC's second team earlier in the week, scored a hat trick, her seventh of the season and also added an assist. Attacker Grace New recorded the same stat line, with the hat trick being her second of the season.
On the circle, Render coralled seven draws and Mia Pozzi, a third team All-ACC selection had six.
Kamryn Henson led the team with two caused turnovers.
In goal, Aaliyah Jones recorded 10 saves, her eighth game this season with 10 or more stops.
